I’m enchanted to announce my next tour:  Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!) The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can! Feeling like the luckiest person alive because I get to take these brilliant artists out on tour with me: Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams and OWENN. I can’t WAIT to see your gorgeous faces out there. It’s been a long time coming 🥰

Anonymous asked: Hey so as a Canadian who can legally vote as of like 7 months ago... I'm freaking out about the upcoming election. How does it work? There seems to be so much but so little info about the platforms and who would be the PM if any of the parties got in... I'm just small and confused and overwhelmed

allthecanadianpolitics:

No platforms are released because the election is about 6 months away. In Canada elections are short. I wouldn’t expect much in the way of platforms until the mid-late summer at the earliest.

In the federal election you vote for a local candidate that if elected will become an MP (member of parliament). They will be your local representative who is supposed to bring your concerns to Parliament.

The election does not elect a Prime Minister. Who is elected determines which Party leader becomes Prime Minister.

You do not vote for Justin Trudeau, or Andrew Scheer, or Jagmeet Singh or Elizabeth May unless you live in their electoral region or riding. Party leaders hold a seat as a Member of Parliament, the same as any other politician.

In short if you want a party leader to become Prime Minister, their party need to win as many seats as possible. The more seats they have, the better the chance they have to form government or have a bigger role in a minority parliament.

Prime Ministers require majority support, so if a party wins a majority of seats, usually the party that wins the most seats, that party leader becomes Prime Minister (as their MP’s give them the confidence to govern).

If a party doesn’t win a majority of seats, discussions can be had to determine which party leader forms government. This might be a coalition or it might be a supply and confidence agreement (like what the BC NDP government in BC operates under). In short, in minorities, more than one party working together is required in order to keep the government stable. Support in the PM may be granted in trade for another party having some of their policies put forward by the government. A similar things happened in B.C. The Greens convinced the NDP to support a number of Green policies and in exchange, the Greens have kept the BC NDP government stable.

Anonymous asked: Let's not forget that before the 2015 election the liberals were in third place and it was the NDP who were her majesty's official opposition. There is no reason the NDP can't do the same thing the liberals did in 2015 and go from third place to government

The film in a language only 20 people speak

allthecanadianpolitics:

On a wintry beach lined with conifers, the body of a teenage boy washes up on the grey sand. A mother runs to her dead son and clutches him to her chest, wailing.

Meanwhile, a young man named Adiits'ii flees from the scene, running into the forest, gasping and grunting. Having taken the boy out in a boat which hit choppy waters, he feels responsible for his death.

It is this family tragedy that serves as the focus of the Canadian film Edge of the Knife, or Sgaawaau K'uuna. The story, steeped in the supernatural, centres on the universal themes of family, love, loss and betrayal.

What is less universal is the language of the film, Haida. According to the First People’s Culture Council, there are only 20 remaining fluent speakers of this language, making it critically endangered.

Helen Haig-Brown and Gwaai Edenshaw, who is Haida himself, directed the film.

Writing the film in Haida “did not even feel like a choice”, said Gwaai. “We were telling a Haida story.”

Although they were “fully committed to the storytelling”, he said, another consideration was that Edge of the Knife would act as a learning resource.

Diane Brown, Gwaai’s grandmother, is one of the last remaining speakers of Haida and acted in the film.

“Our dream right at the start was it would help our children learn the language. That we help teach them,” she said.
